Try reassembling the reed and mouthpiece and make sure you get them in the right position so that your saxophone can be played smoothly. Make the flat side of the reed fit directly the flat side of the mouthpiece.Line up the curved tip of the reed with mouthpiece itself.
If the reeds are positioned upwards, they will sound; if they are downwards, there will be a low tone, so the reeds and mouthpiece should be parallel.
